Hi there!
I'm Aki Korhonen, founder of the "Kadonnut Sormus" website. I help people recover lost valuables using metal detectors and specialized equipment — both on land and underwater.
The most rewarding part of this work is returning something to its owner that they thought was lost forever. Many people don't realize that even a ring sunk deep into mud can be found and recovered with the right tools and experience. Often, we make the impossible possible!
My first experience with metal detecting came as a teenager when I borrowed a detector and explored the beach in my hometown. Alongside trash, I found old Finnish coins and a couple of costume rings — typical beach finds, but for a young boy, it was an incredible treasure hunt adventure! That day sparked a lifelong passion for search equipment and the hobby.
Over the years, the technology has advanced dramatically, and today's top-tier devices offer many useful features. I founded the Kadonnut Sormus search service in 2021 in Tampere, aiming to offer land and wading searches for lost valuables in the Pirkanmaa region. I started by promoting the service in local community groups and gradually received search assignments, which I shared on social media. The uniqueness of the service caught the attention of local media, and I was featured in several newspapers.
At the same time, my posts were followed by diving instructor Christopher Hokkanen, who also conducted underwater searches. He suggested we collaborate, and we quickly realized we had much to learn from each other. We began training one another — I taught him about the equipment, and he taught me about diving and underwater search techniques.
Today, we both have the gear and experience for land, wading, and diving searches. For safety reasons, we conduct diving searches together. Thanks to Christopher's active social media presence and network, we gained more visibility and the number of search assignments kept growing.
We soon realized that Kadonnut Sormus was the only website in Finland offering professional metal detecting services. We also knew that many people have lost items of great sentimental value at some point in their lives — but most don't know that recovery might be possible or where to get help.
That's why I wanted to expand Kadonnut Sormus into a nationwide network — so that as many people as possible across Finland could get help through this site.
